01 / INDUSTRY SECTORS
Choose a Touch Solution for Your Industry
Compare the optical, mechanical, electrical and touch-input priorities for each application. Explore the industry pages for detailed options and validation requirements.

Industrial Automation & Factory HMI
For operator panels, CNC equipment and control cabinets: specify electrical noise, installation and operator inputs together.
- Noise & EMC Design: Select controller, grounding and shielding for specified IEC 61000 parts and levels; validate the agreed electrical configuration.
- Glove & Wet-Touch Tuning: Glove and wet-touch tuning are engineering options; test the specified glove thickness, contamination, water exposure and installed grounding.
- Mounting & Sealing Boundary: Define the front-panel or enclosure boundary. IP65/IP67 remain project targets until the specified assembly and installation are tested.

Outdoor Kiosks, EV Chargers & Signage
For unattended terminals exposed to sunlight, impact, temperature changes and moisture at the installed enclosure.
- Impact Protection Target: Define the IK10 target, cover-glass construction and mounting; verify the specified installed assembly before claiming compliance.
- Sunlight Readability: Select brightness, bonding and surface treatment with solar load, thermal design and power budget. Higher luminance targets require model review.
- Sealing & Wet-Touch Behavior: Separate the IP boundary from touch behavior. Test rain and water rejection with the selected controller, firmware, drainage and grounding.

Medical Equipment & Clinical Interfaces
For diagnostics, patient monitoring and clinical controls: assess cleaning, gloves and complete-device EMC separately.
- Surface & Cleaning Selection: Antimicrobial treatment is optional and separate from cleaning compatibility. Test the selected surface against the named disinfectant, concentration, contact time and cycle count.
- Glove & Saline Evaluation: Confirm glove and saline operation only after testing the intended glove, exposure, glass stack, controller, grounding and equipment.
- Medical EMC Boundary: Grounding, shielding and controller integration support design; final equipment manufacturers must validate the complete device against applicable IEC 60601-1-2 requirements.

Self-Service, Banking & Retail Terminals
For payment kiosks, vending machines, smart lockers and check-in terminals.
- Cover Glass & Cabinet Support: Select glass thickness, edge treatment and mounting for the impact target and cabinet opening.
- Privacy & Optical Options: Assess privacy film, coating and brightness together for their effects on viewing angle and image quality.
- Active-Pen Input: Evaluate the supported pen, controller, firmware and glass stack. Stylus input does not verify identity or legal validity.

Gaming, Casino & Amusement Machines
For slot machines, arcades and entertainment terminals requiring custom shapes and host integration.
- Custom Outlines & Cutouts: Review glass shape, apertures, border printing and mounting datum against the cabinet drawing.
- Curved Format Review: Review curved cover glass up to 55 inches; complete curved PCAP assemblies need confirmed bend radius, sensor and controller.
- Driver & Host Integration: Review 3M driver requirements, host software, controller, VID/PID and firmware before compatibility testing.

Marine & Aviation Systems
For bridge consoles, chart displays and cabin controls: specify glare, moisture, salt exposure, dimming and mounting.
- Optics & Dimming Inputs: Define reflections, brightness and minimum luminance. Night-navigation dimming stays an RFQ input pending verified model support and dimming curve.
- Salt-Mist Project Target: Define salt-mist exposure and assess the selected coating, enclosure, connectors and complete assembly against the agreed plan.
- Mechanical & Approval Boundary: Test vibration-resistant mounting and retained connectors to the required profile. No marine, aviation or navigation-equipment approval is implied.

Transportation, Rail & Fleet Terminals
For vehicle HMIs, passenger-information equipment and fleet terminals: assess reflections, temperature changes, vibration and vehicle electrical conditions.
- Optical & Thermal Targets: Select coatings, bonding and component ratings for cabin conditions and solar load; confirm the stack’s operating and storage limits.
- Vibration-Resistant Integration: Review strain relief, locking connectors and mounting; validate the assembly against the specified vibration profile.
- Power & Interface Confirmation: Verify model-specific voltage, transients and I/O. RS232/RS485 require supported configurations; 9–36V DC and CAN remain RFQ inputs pending model evidence.

| Field Challenge | Engineering Selection | Validation Checkpoint | Primary Sectors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct Sunlight & High Glare | Brightness selection, optical bonding and AG/AR options assessed with the enclosure, solar load and power budget. | Measure the agreed configuration and review thermal behavior in the installed orientation. | Outdoor, Marine, Transportation |
| Gloves, Saline & Surface Water | Controller and firmware options selected for the named glove, liquid exposure, cover glass and grounding condition. | Test the configured sample with defined gloves, droplets or film and intended operator actions. | Medical, Industrial, Outdoor |
| Impact & Ingress Targets | Cover glass, frame support, gasket and enclosure boundary designed around the requested IK or IP target. | Verify the specified assembly and installation; front protection does not establish a whole-device rating. | Outdoor, Self-Service, Industrial |
| Electrical Noise & EMC | Controller, shielding, FPC routing and grounding reviewed against the equipment architecture. | Define applicable IEC 61000 parts or IEC 60601-1-2 requirements and validate the complete configuration. | Industrial, Medical, Marine |
| Cleaning & Surface Treatment | Antimicrobial treatment and chemical-cleaning compatibility handled as separate material selections. | Test the selected surface with named chemicals, concentrations, contact time and cycle count. | Medical, Industrial, Self-Service |
| Thermal, Vibration & Vehicle Power | Component ratings, bonding, retained connectors and regulated power selected from the stated operating conditions. | Validate actual temperature, vibration and voltage/transient profiles for the chosen model and mounting. | Transportation, Marine, Outdoor |
03 / HARDWARE INTEGRATION LEVELS
